I have always love the idea of hiking a mountain. For me, being at the summit while sight seeing Allah's splendid creature is my best moment with Allah. Hiking is like my very own therapy.
The idea of hiking Mount Marapi Sumatera Barat (Sumbar) came from Aini, my matriculation best friend. Here's a thing, Aini and I, we both love adventure and Aini knows how much I loveeeee hiking. Not as much as how I love to read books but this is what I do most of the times with my fambam. So she came out with this idea (I used to call it insane) in the mid of December. I was in my study week. Aini = Unexpected insane idea.
A week before our flight to Padang, I was hesitating. Marapi, volcanoes, hard, earthquake. All sort of things were attacking my mind. The night before we flew, I had butterflies in my tummy. It was hard for me to sleep. I kept on asking Aini to call off the plan. I was scared to death. Lantaklah duit terbang, janji aku selamat. That was what I thought. Anyway, the plan still went on. A day after our arrival, we were already hiking the mountain. There were six more people joining our trip. The other three joined us the next morning when we were already at the campsite.
For me, the trail was breathtaking. It wasn't too hot nor too cold when we begun hiking. The surrounding was almost the same like the ones in Malaysia except there were more unrecognizable trees over there.
Ninja cari line.
We reached the campsite at 6.00 pm (Indonesia time). By that time, it was almost the time for sunset. The next things that we did were preparing dinner and installing tents. Sumpah sejuk dekat campsite. I was shaking so badly and had to wear the gloves like all the time. My body was already covered with four layers of clothes which one of them is baju sejuk berkat ikhsan sepupu Aini. To be honest, I was really not prepared for the trip. Like I've said, I had no heart and wanted to cancel off the plan in the beginning. Fiuh!
This photo was suppose to capture the sunset but the sun was 80% gone. Hence, our tahan sejuk faces. From the left: Dinda, yours truly, Adey and Kak Rahmi.
Aini and I went to bed early that night but woke up shockingly at 12 am because of the very strong and breezy wind. Perut memang dah masuk angin.
Continued the journey to the summit after performing our Subuh prayer. Before that memang berapa banyak kali terbangun tertidur tersakit perut tertidur balik terbangun and the cycle went on until the clock reached 3.00 am. By that time memang mood dah kelaut nak tidur. It was too cold and I could barely feel my fingers. So we decided to just stay up until 4 and joined the rest for coffee.
The journey from the campsite to the summit was all about rocks. No more green plants were found except Edelweiss. You can google on this. Edelweiss is one of the attractions when it comes to Indonesia's mountains. We reached the summit at 7.30 am. By that time, my stomachache was getting worse. I couldn't stand and hardly talk for awhile. I was just sitting there while waiting for the others to take pictures. Tsk! Sumpah tak best. Sumpah jealous. You get that feeling. I was feeling very uncomfortable and couldn't enjoy the magnificent view and dahlah the trip maybe for once in a lifetime. I still hope that I can hike Marapi again but maybe after Mount Prau, Merbabu, Singgalang etc...
We had our breakfast at the summit and continued the journey to Edelweiss Garden!
It was my mom's birthday on the day we begun hiking!
Declining the summit was challenging. The rocks kept falling down. We had to be very careful with our steps. I made a full use on my stick during this time and my steps were very slow than the others.

Edelweiss Garden with the team.
Edelweiss flowers! To my surprise: I had just reached home from Malacca when I realized my Edelweiss were blooming so beautifully.
Last but not least, yours truly. Kesakitan keperutan ketidak ketahanan. Nampak tak banyak duduk dalam gambar. Bukti kesakitan.
Definitely one of my best trips albeit not being able to enjoy so much. In shaa Allah, chasing for Rinjani and Singgalang for the next trip! Till then, toodles!
